Overview

Village Health Partners in Plano, TX offers year-round annual physicals for individuals of all ages and every stage of life. Unique physicals are created for men, women, and children. In addition, specialized programs have been developed for our area senior citizens. Because of an increased risk of health issues related to aging, an annual physical is one aspect that should not be overlooked for those over the age of 65. According to the American Medical Association, there are certain procedures and guidelines adults and seniors should be monitored for. The practitioners at Village Health Partners work with seniors everyday to ensure that they stay healthy, active, and pain-free.

What is Included?

Adult men and women will have what is called a "well-check" about once a year. There are specific tests that are given during these exams that are unique for a man or a woman. Once an individual ages and is classified as a senior citizen, these physical exams will vary depending on the patient. There are a variety of tests that can be included in a senior’s annual physical. The routine exams include blood work, a test for blood pressure and cholesterol, as well as a height and weight check-up. Blood work will help determine if the patient’s blood counts are stable and normal. If this blood analysis comes back abnormal it could represent a medical condition. Blood tests also helps determine glucose counts, and in some cases, a thyroid check. In addition, high or low blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc. can be identified so that it can be monitored with either medication and/or a change in diet. To ensure the lungs are healthy, it is often recommended to have a chest X-ray once a year, typically during the annual physical.

Additional Tests

Depending on the individual patient case, additional tests may be ordered during the routine physical annual exam. This may include a colonoscopy to check for colon cancer in both men and women, as well as a PSA (prostate specific antigen) blood test to detect prostate cancer in men. Women should plan to have their annual mammogram to help detect breast cancer, as well as a pelvic exam and pap smear about once every 3-4 years.
