What you need to know about lab work

Labs are an essential part of understanding your whole-person wellness. Lab work helps you and your family physician establish a baseline of your health and catch health concerns at the preventive stage. It’s important to understand the full picture of your health, especially during a pandemic.

But how does lab work look now that we’re social distancing and taking extra precautions to keep you and our team members safe? Here’s what you should expect when scheduling and coming in for your lab appointment.

How do you know if you need lab work?

Your medical provider will want you to schedule lab work for most physicals.

Pre-Visit Labs:

Some providers like to have their patients get lab work prior to your appointment so they can review your results during your visit. If you are not sure if you need to get labs before your appointment, you may send a message to your provider using the patient portal. Click here to find a step-by-step guide on how to message your provider.

Post-Visit Labs:

You will be prompted to schedule a lab appointment during your visit.

Scheduling, rescheduling, or canceling your lab appointment

We now have same-day lab work available.

Are you ready to schedule your appointment? We’re receiving a high volume of calls right now, so skip the phone wait and schedule online! To schedule your lab appointment, visit vhplab.com.

Please note that during COVID-19, walk-ins are not accepted. You can schedule your lab work no more than five business days before or after your physical after to make sure it’s within the allocated time for insurance purposes.

Where to get lab work completed

Village Health Partners is partnered with Clinical Pathology Laboratories (CPL) — an outside company not owned or operated by Village Health Partners — for lab work. CPL is conveniently located inside Independence Medical Village, Legacy Medical Village and McKinney Medical Village, making it very convenient for patients that need to get lab work. No need to ever leave the building!

What to expect during your lab appointment

  • Please remember that you must be fasting for 8 hours before your appointment. Black coffee, tea and water are ok!
