The Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period begins on January 1st and ends on March 31st of each year. But what is the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period and who is it for? What is the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period?

During this time, if you have a Medicare Advantage plan, you can change to another Medicare Advantage plan or switch to traditional Medicare with a separate drug plan.

Can I switch from traditional Medicare to a Medicare Advantage plan?

No, you can’t switch from traditional Medicare to a Medicare Advantage plan during this time of the year. However, you can switch between Medicare Advantage plans or drop your Medicare Advantage plan for traditional Medicare (with an optional drug plan).

How many times can I change plans during the open enrollment period?

You can change plans once and your coverage will begin the first day of the month after enrolling.

If I have traditional Medicare, can I add a drug plan?

No, you can’t add a drug plan during this enrollment period, but you will have the opportunity to add a drug plan during the Annual Enrollment Period starting in October.
