What is Urgent Care?

Sometimes, we can suffer from sudden afflictions that may require more than a typical doctor's visit. However, a visit to the emergency room can be extremely time-consuming and expensive. In situations like these, it can be important to have an urgent care provider you can trust. Urgent care is meant for non-emergency medical needs that need to be addressed sooner rather than later. Village Health Partners in Plano, TX is home to experienced doctors, state-of-the-art technologies, and private exam rooms in order to differentiate us from other urgent care facilities. Our practice offers an effective way to treat ailments, such as migraines, bleeding, and infections, before they become more severe. This also allows patients to be seen by a provider they already know and trust.

Do I Need Urgent Care?

Most importantly, urgent care is not meant for emergency medical needs. If you or a loved one are in a life-threatening situation, it is imperative to go to the hospital as soon as possible or call 9-1-1 and wait for an ambulance. Urgent care is meant for patients who have concerns that cannot wait until their next scheduled doctor's appointment but do not warrant a trip to the emergency room.

The needs that may warrant a trip to our urgent care center include:

  • Deep cuts, burns, or hits to the head
  • Fevers
  • Headaches
  • Possible concussions, broken bones, or sprains
  • Problematic breathing
  • Signs of a non-emergency allergic reaction
  • Vomiting and upset stomach
  • Rashes
  • Cold and flu
  • Excessive pain and/or bleeding
  • Injuries to the neck or feelings of a stiff neck
  • Sports injuries
  • Respiratory infections
  • Sore throats
  • Ear infections
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Changes in your walk or use of a body part because of pain

What Can I Expect During an Urgent Care Visit?

When properly treated in their early stages, urgent care can prevent many conditions from causing larger problems down the road. Our friendly staff will lead you to one of our private treatment rooms where our physicians will listen to your concerns before conducting tests to diagnose and treat the root of your issues. This discussion will usually involve your medical history, current medications, and symptoms. The examination itself will search for the cause of your current symptoms, as well as any potential underlying symptoms. In many cases, this will require us to draw a sample of your blood. Once these tests have been completed, we can create a treatment plan to help you on your road to recovery.
