If you notice changes in a mole’s color or appearance it is important that a trained doctor evaluate it to ensure it is not cancerous. Pay close attention to areas of your skins that are exposed to the sun, especially your hands, arms, legs, chest, torso, back, and head. A patient is encouraged to get a mole check if the border or edges of the mole are irregular; the mole has different shades of color; the asymmetry is off or the mole appears different from others in size, color or shape. What is included?
If your dermatologist notices an abnormal mole they will take a skin biopsy, which involves cutting and removing a small sample of skin to be tested. This will help your physician diagnose possible skin disorders.
