While you may already know it is important to make smart food choices, you may find it difficult to sort through all of the information about nutrition and food. What you may not know is that March is National Nutrition Month®. This is the perfect time of year to help you make the task to eat right, live right and feel right a little easier.
National Nutrition Month® is a nutrition education and information campaign. "National Nutrition Week" was initiated in March 1973. In response to a growing public interest in nutrition, it became a month-long observance in 1980. Each year National Nutrition Month® brings attention to the importance of making informed food choices and highlights the value of developing a balanced lifestyle.
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics sponsors the National Nutrition Month® each year. The Academy is the world's largest organization of food and nutrition professionals. The Academy offers consumers current, science-based food and nutrition information. This is helpful since the majority of what we see and hear in the media is false promises of quick weight loss, perfect health and eternal youth…all of which are available for a substantial amount of your money! Real, evidence-based guidance is what we need to improve our ability to make smart choices the majority of the time.
Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day is celebrated on the second Wednesday of March (March 13, 2019). It was created in 2007 to increase awareness of registered dietitian nutritionist (RDNs) as the key providers of food and nutrition services. RDNs are able to separate facts from fads and translate the science of nutrition into information you can use. RDNs can put you on the path to maintaining a healthy weight, eating right and reducing your risk of chronic disease.
