The Plano and McKinney facilities of Village Health Partners offer hearing and vision screening for patients throughout the year. According to optometrists, 1 in 6 children have trouble with their vision causing difficulties in learning and reading. Hearing and vision examinations help to diagnose any issues a child or teen may have with hearing or sight. As a form of preventative care, it is recommended that vision and hearing screenings be completed annually as a part of routine health examinations. Patients may need to go more frequently if issues or complaints about sight or hearing loss arise. At our Plano and McKinney locations, we provide patients with a thorough hearing and vision-screening test to assess any difficulties the patient may be enduring and to ensure that both hearing and sight are healthy.
About the Procedure
Hearing and vision screenings are a common procedure that should be given at least yearly beginning as early as birth. These screenings are often required prior to starting preschool or kindergarten and may be necessary before each school year.
- Sight: During vision screening, practitioners will record the distance acuity for the right and left eye. Photoscreening may be used for patients 5 years of age and older.
- Sound: Hearing screening is also a simple process and consists of the patient undergoing an audiometric screen for the left and right ears.
Following each screening, the practitioner will record the results and include them as part of the patient's official medical records.

"Dr. Liane Libel is So AMAZING, and this was my first time in her office. I was nervous, but the staff was so welcoming with Smiles. "This office is extremely busy yet very organized. I was there to request some records and the woman at one of the check in windows (I apologize for not remembering her name) was very polite and informed me that she was unable to help me with what I needed. However, she directed me very quickly through a door where I met with a gentleman named James who was not only polite and efficient he went above and beyond to provide me with all of the information I needed and he also helped me with instructions on how to access the portal. My experience there was very quick and pleasant. Thank you to those two people I encountered there, your service was remarkable."- M.C. / Google / May 25, 2021
"If you appreciate a Dr. that actually takes the time to listen and get to know you, this is the one for you. She's kind, explains things really well, and gives great advice. It's so rare to find doctors that don't rush you in and out. I almost don't want to post this so that she doesn't get busier...lol"- E.J. / Google / May 13, 2021
Depending on the patient and the results of their screenings, additional tests may be required. For patients who did not pass their vision screening, the practitioner may recommend seeing an optometrist for a full eye exam. Failing a vision screening may indicate that a patient needs corrective lenses. Our practitioner may also recommend additional testing if a patient does not pass the hearing screening, which could be an indication of hearing loss and patients may need to see an audiologist. In some cases, a hearing aid may be prescribed.
